9 Innings from Ground Zero

Is the United States safer today from terrorist attack than it was 9/10/2001? How did watching 9 Innings From Ground Zero increase your knowledge of the events of that terrible day?

I remember in 5th grade hearing about the attacks and not fully understanding, but as I have grown older I have learned and come to some what understand thse horrors of September 11th 2001. I went to New York in 2003 and was able to go to Ground Zero, the image of the destruction, the rubble, the missing person fliers, the memorials... now all kind of blend together, except one picture in my mind sticks out and I don't think I will ever forget it; In the middle of the rubble and metal, someone had erected two I-beams to form a cross, and hanging on that cross was a lone fireman's jacket. The emotion of the attack had not hit me till then... three years later, I can not even imagine what it was like for people who lost loved ones in the attacks or had lived in New York so close to the attacks. The video gave me a better understanding of the pain the citizens of New York experienced and the bonding power of a common goal.

I believe that in some ways we are safer, because we are no longer ignorant, we no longer think that something so devastating could happen to Americans, so there is a new factor of caution, but at the same time it triggered a fear factor, that I feel is sometimes abused by the government to gain approval. By saying I will protect you from terrorists, you are reminding the American People of the fear and pain that they do not want to feel again.

1) The Desert area in Joshua Tree National Park is quite barren, there are no trees, trails, or civilized life to be found. Though there is no foliage to be found, the concentration of mountains surrounding the are is pretty high. The high density of highways and streets is found a few miles away. Due the lack of visible plant life, I am guessing the climate is a dry desert climate; hot in the day and cold at night.

   

2)The second location is 18.6 miles from the first, it is surrounded by neighborhoods of distinct patterns, where all the houses are clustered together. The area is densely populated and roads are dispersed between the neighborhoods. The golf courses are made to look natural, but the bright green grass and man made ponds are a give away, the area is also surrounded by farmer's fields. From the areas situation, you can tell that it is a suburb, a result of urban sprawl, not to far from the city, but not in the hustle and bustle of it either. 

Introduction

I am Lou Murrey, I am a senior at Watauga this year. My goal for the year is to get into a school where I can pursue photography. I want to encorporate photography with religion, because they are my two greatest passions. I am on the Youth Council for the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina, we represent the youth, and plan and lead youth events. My interests have always lie in social studies paticularly in politics and culture. In this class I want to learn more about how different cultures live and interact with one another.
